Access to finance for SMEs in Europe (ECB survey June 1, 2016)

The ECB has just released the results of its survey on “Access to finance for SMEs in the euro area. ” The survey concludes that ” SMEs say that access to funding has improved further” in the euro area for the period of October 2015 to March 2016.

Overall access to finance is the least important issue according to SMEs, for 10% of SMEs in France and the same figure for the euro area.

75% of French SMEs were granted all the loans they applied for. This is 7 points higher than for the whole of the euro zone (68%). Use of loans for SMEs is also higher in France (40%) than the euro zone (30%).

In the forefront, SMEs feel they are faced with searching for markets and customers (27% of the European responses, but 20% for French SMEs). Other areas of concern: the level of competition, the cost of production or regulation and lastly funding.
